The GLA:D Program at Back in Action
Managing Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis
GLA:D™ Canada is an 8-week education and exercise program for those with stiff and/or painful knees and/or
hips, or those with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. Research from GLAD® in Denmark show participants report
less pain, reduced use of pain killers, fewer individuals on sick leave, and being more physically active. Source: (https://gladcanada.ca)
GLA:D™ CANADA IS MADE UP OF 3 PARTS:
2-3 Education Sessions
GLA:D™ Canada participants will gain valuable knowledge about osteoarthritis, including its risk factors, symptoms, and available treatment options. These sessions will also teach you how to effectively self-manage your symptoms and understand the benefits of exercise in improving joint health. Additionally, you’ll learn practical strategies for coping with the challenges of daily activities affected by osteoarthritis, helping you stay active and maintain a better quality of life.
12 Neuromuscular Exercise Sessions
As part of the GLA:D™ Canada program, you will participate in 60-minute group exercise sessions twice a week for six weeks, led by a certified therapist. These sessions will help you improve movement control and posture, build muscular strength through functional exercises, and learn how to apply these exercises to your daily activities. By strengthening your body and enhancing your movement patterns, you’ll gain the confidence and ability to manage osteoarthritis more effectively in your everyday life.
Data Collection for Quality Monitoring
The GLA:D™ Canada program tracks your progress by measuring your outcomes at your first visit, as well as at 3 and 12 months after starting the program. This helps us understand how the program is benefiting people with osteoarthritis across Canada and allows us to make continuous improvements. Your participation not only supports your own health journey but also contributes to the advancement of osteoarthritis care for others.
